Who among American Idol 2013 (Season 12) finalists could be the next Kelly Clarkson? It may be too soon to tell. But we could guess who will be the “safest” next week when the show returns to eliminate send home one more contestant.

This Top 5 Girls ‘Idol’ fearless forecast was almost perfect, except the Janelle Arthur prediction was updated only after the performance. (The rest was based on the Idol girls’ “Sudden Death” performances.) Adriana Latonio was bumped off by Janelle, who came back stronger after a rather mediocre number a week ago. That said, there was no shocking departure among the girls.Best ‘Idol’ Girls, So far: Amber Holcomb, Angela Miller and Candice GloverAs for the safest next week, the odds are in favor of Amber Holcomb, Angela Miller and Candice Glover. These two always seem to know the right song that matches their vocals perfectly.

This Top 5 Boys ‘Idol’ fearless forecast had pointed out Elijah Liu could be the next Eben Franckewitz from last year. History did repeat itself. The next Idol judges should note not every cute and young ladies’ guy can be Justin Bieber. Both Liu and Franckewitz had not-so-stellar vocals – they should have judged based on that, and allowed some better guys in for the voting round.

The same forecast noted Vincent Powell could have better chances against Devin Velez because Powell had more screen time since the auditions. Apparently, Velez’ vocals had wider fan base than predicted. Paul Jolley got in, and Charlie Askew was sent home. Jimmy Iovine was vindicated, he was right to predict Jolley had something good going on. (That, and Askew messed up, unfortunately. He took his own vocals for granted and picked a wrong time and venue for his ennui.) So that’s 3 out o 5 on the forecast for the boys.

Best ‘Idol’ Boy, So far: Burnell Taylor

Among the boys, the safest next week would be Burnell Taylor. It is difficult to see the other guys’ staying power as of this time. None of them has the right combination of Burnell’s charm and vocals. That said, only Burnell can give Amber, Candice, and Angie a run for their money.

Who will American Idol 2013 based on what we saw during the Hollywood Rounds and which contestants ended up in the Season 12 Top 40?

This is a tough one to choose after watching this week on American Idol. While the girls were primarily a hot mess during the group performances, they hit that solo round and made history with some incredible performances.

American Idol 2013 ratings continue to fall dramatically, with Thursday night’s Hollywood Rounds finale ratings even worse than the night before. The show dropped from a 4.3 market share in the 18-49 age group to a seriously pitiful 3.6.

If you think that’s bad, consider that Wednesday night’s Hollywood Week Round 3 show was the worst American Idol ratings for the series on…

There was an interesting new twist in the American Idol 2013 Hollywood Week finale this season. The Season 12 judges needed to get down to 40 contestants for next week’s Las Vegas rounds, so they had two singers they weren’t sure about do a sing-off. One of the head-to-heads featured Stephanie Schimel vs. Rachel Hale. Let’s take a look…

Stephanie caused a stir from her very first audition in Chicago, as Keith Urban loved her, calling her version of “Dream A Little Dream” a cross between Carrie Underwood and Gwen Stefani — a high compliment to be sure. Nicki Minaj, however, wasn’t seeing the big deal, and she joked that she was angry that Stephanie dared to wear the same shade of eyeshadow as her.

During Hollywood Week, Stephanie Schimel botched the lyrics to her group song so badly, she even told cameras she couldn’t believe she got through. There almost seemed to be a bit too much nonchalance about it, no?

But when the judges asked her to sing for her spot in the Top 20 and she sang Phillip Phillips’ “Home,” we thought her take on it was stellar. And it seemed, once again, that Keith was impressed, too.

Then there was the eternally happy Rachel Hale, who always smiles and giggles about — well — everything, since her first audition in Long Beach.

Even when she was asked to sing for her spot, she joked about the fact that the judges didn’t like her solo performance. It was interesting to consider that she, like Stephanie, took on a song by an Idol alum, singing Haley Reinhart’s “Undone.”

In the end, the judges chose Rachel over Stephanie? Who would you have chosen?
